A native of Salem, Oregon, Kevin Plechl (KP) is a veteran of the United States Navy as an Engineman. He holds a B.A. with an emphasis in coaching and physical development from Willamette University and a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) from Western Oregon University. Currently, he is a full-time health and physical education teacher within the Salem-Keizer School District.
Coach KP holds a USSF National A License and a USSF National Youth License. In addition, he holds his USC Director of Coaching certification, Futsal Level 1 Diploma Course, Goalkeeping Level 1 Diploma, Performance Analysis Level 1 Diploma, and possesses a Coerver Youth Diploma 2. As a strong believer in education, he has an entire slough of certifications through the National Federation of High Schools.
He played soccer professionally with the Cascade Surge in the 1990s, and during the 1990s is when his coaching journey began. He coached within the area's youth teams of Salem United and the Cascade Surge. He also spent time as the JV soccer coaches for North Salem boys and South Salem girls high school teams. Within the Cascade Surge, he guided his U-17 team to the state championship game and has coached teams at the Premier League, Super Y-League, and the USL League Two (formerly the Premier Development League); more than seventy percent of all Major League Soccer draftees have League Two experience.
Under his belt are two international tours to Europe. In the late 90s, he took a U14 boys team from the former Salem United Soccer Club that participated in Holland's Haarlem Cup. In the early 2000s, he also led a Cascade Surge U18 boys team that participated in England's London International Soccer Festival, defeated professional club Hartlepool United , and went on to win as plate division Champions.
Coach KP was the Oregon ODP 93 girls head coach in 2007 and 2008, the Oregon ODP 94 girls head coach in 2009 and 2010, and the Oregon ODP 97 girls head coach in 2011 and 2012. Until 2014, he served as the Oregon ODP Thorns 98 girls head coach. In 2014, he was the Thorns FC ODP Girls Coach of the Year. He also served as the Associate Head Coach for the women's soccer program at Western Oregon University for ten years.
From 2008 to 2021, Coach KP served as the girls head coach of the Sprague Olympians, leading them to the state playoffs ten of the fourteen years. Over the course of his tenure, he successful ran the most prestigious soccer camp in the pacific northwest, Future Olympian Soccer Academy (FOSA).
Within the Capital FC, Coach KP is formerly the head coach of the U13-2007B Black team, oversaw the US Soccer DA through 2019, and the 2010B Red team's head coach (pictured right), who qualified for Elite Academy Nationals in 2023 and advanced to the elite-eight, is currently the Junior Academy Director, and he also volunteers within the club on various duties. In addition, he is a former staff coach with Coerver Coaching NW, and he resigned early 2022 following fourteen years as the head coach of the Sprague High School girls soccer program. Coach KP spends much of his summer coaching for the Portland Timbers and Thorns Residency Camp, Coerver Coaching, PTFC Youth Camps, training athletes privately, and spending time with his family.
